A Rose by any other name would smell as sweet

A Rose by any other name would smell as sweet–but we still call it Rose anyway. We’re feeling sweet today, so we’re giving you all flowers when you load up BattleBlock Theater on Steam or Xbox!
FeaturePost_Rose
We’d like to give virtual flowers to our Arena Playlist Creation Contest winners as well! They were featured previously, but it seems most appropriate to start out 2015 with a strong set of levels. Give it up again for two of the best community-made arena playlists of 2014:

Arena Features in BattleBlock Theater

XBLA Arena Feature:
Arcadia by MeltedCow
Bang for your buck — that’s what this playlist offers its players. Many of the levels in this playlist feel like two levels in one! Switches, paths and judicious use of clever block placement generate levels that can evolve and change as you play or offer great risk/reward benefits as you decide which paths to take. Be sure to check out the final stage in this playlist where you can adjust your difficulty, strategy and even your score objective. It’s the ultimate expression of this particular concours ultimate playlist!

Steam Arena Feature:
Game of Kings by Frog Fractions (formerly Hexadoodle)
Checkmate. Dramatically, this playlist was the last playlist we saw when judging the competition. Just like the pivotal move in a chess match — you know, besides stalemates or dumping the pieces on the floor — this playlist bested its competition through cunning design and execution. Each level within this playlist is creatively themed around chess, its pieces and their movements. You’ll be chopping wood throughout this full complement of friendly game modes. A book-win for Frog Fractions!

Enjoy your weekend with some fun fighting!

Buh-bye Monsters; Hello community playlists!

Welcome to another exciting week of BattleBlock Theater Furbottom’s Features! This week we’re updating both the Co-Op feature and the Solo feature since we had a month of Monster Playlists.

We’re done talking about us for a bit, so let us talk more about you. It’s fun to see what ideas the community comes up with using the built in Level-Editor and so here we are back to highlighting some of those awesome levels:

Cooperative Playlists in Furbottom’s Features

XBLA Co-Op Feature
Togetherwefail3 by leveldesignguy (Re-featured)
Difficulty level: Intermediate

Steam Co-Op Feature
Testing by Byrone
Difficulty level: Intermediate

Solo Playlists in Furbottom’s Features
Our Behemoth-made Monster Playlists took over the Furbottom’s Features slots for a bit, so we decided to bring back the solo playlists that did not get the full 4 week run. BBT players have two more weeks to try out these solo features, especially if you didn’t get to the first time!

XBLA Solo Feature
GiganticBlock by QuirkyTurky
Difficulty level: Expert

Steam Solo Feature
Orange Blocks by Getlucky12341
Difficulty level: Intermediate

FeaturePost_THIEFCompleting all the levels in any of these playlists will be an amazing feat and you’ll be rewarded when you finish all the stages!

Wait! Are you being rewarded or has it been stolen?! The Thief is here to rob the spotlight this week in BattleBlock Theater. Finish Furbottom’s Features Solo or Co-op playlist to capture this bold bandit before she bolts.

AGDQ2015 BBT Speedrun Recap

agdq2015-screenshot
It isn’t often that we get to watch people speedrun through the entirety of one of our games in one sitting! We spent three hours on a Skype call with Games Done Quick for their charity event, Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ), which raises funds to benefit the Prevent Cancer Foundation. In their speedrun of BattleBlock Theater, PJDicesare & MechaRichter played the full game in the 100% category, which involved getting an A++ rating on every single stage (including secret stages), collecting every gem and yarn in the game, and getting the time bonus–all in under 2:45. And they did it!

PJDicesare & MechaRichter were phenomenal performers in every way. We were extremely impressed with their ability to focus on the speedrun, give us insight on their strategies, crack jokes, and manage not to get distracted by Dan & Will (especially Will). This morning, we couldn’t stop talking about how much we enjoyed every minute of the event: omega jumps, blastarangs, re-naming our prisoners, the color yellow, pigs vs. horses, etc. There were plenty of moments they left us stunned at how they manipulated the game mechanics to their advantage.

If you missed the live stream yesterday, then you missed out on 2 hours and 45 minutes of pure fun. Or did you? Games Done Quick have posted the video of the entire speedrun! (Spoiler Alert! If you didn’t guess already, the ending is revealed since the speedrun goes through the whole game.) Here’s the video:

We wish AGDQ the best of luck in hitting their fundraising goal of $500K towards the Prevent Cancer Foundation. AGDQ continues its speedrun events through January 10th, 2015. Check out their website HERE for the schedule of live streams and to learn how to help.

Now it’s time for us to get back to work! Top of our to-do list: Do Stuff??
