Fat Kid returns to BBT w/ Arena Feature

November 21, 2015 is Alien Hominid’s 11th console birthday! Eleven years ago, we released Alien Hominid on PlayStation 2 after forming our company in 2003. In honor of this special occasion, we’re bringing back one of the original Alien Hominid characters: Fat Kid!

Along with the celebration of Alien Hominid’s birthday, we also celebrate our “final” new Arena Feature in BattleBlock Theater. As we announced earlier this month, we’re going to be putting majority of our resources into Pit People after November so we’re going to be repeating previously featured playlists in BattleBlock Theater. This is the “final” new Arena playlist to be added into the rotation.

XBLA Arena Feature:

(We’re currently experiencing technical difficulties, but we’re working on putting this up as soon as possible.) UPDATE: All good! up and running!

Steam Arena Feature:
LordOfTheFlies by Squiddles (usually lagging)

Keep in mind that we’re merely discontinuing our weekly searches, but we’ll still be checking for new playlists from time to time so it’s not final final! We encourage everyone to continue creating levels and uploading them to the Community Theater šŸ™‚

Breaking Down Backward Compatibility

Larry Hyrb (aka Major Nelson) and FLitz (from Smosh Games) recently came out with a video explaining the Backward Compatibility features for Xbox One. As youā€™ll see in the video, all of our Xbox 360 titles will be available for Backward Compatibility:

Alien Hominid HD, Castle Crashers, and BattleBlock Theater will all be accessible on Xbox One through Backward Compatibility. If you owned any of these titles on Xbox 360, then they will automatically show up in the ā€œReady to Installā€ section on your Xbox One when you sign in with the same gamertag.

The video explains several questions regarding Back Compat, including saves and cross platform online multiplayer. Here are some highlights:

-When playing on Xbox 360, make sure to cloud save so that your saves will transfer over to Xbox One.

-Your Xbox 360 Achievements get transferred and you can continue to unlock achievements when playing on Xbox One.

-You will be able to play online mutliplayer with Xbox 360 players if youā€™re playing through the Back Compat version on Xbox One.

-Youā€™ll also be able to use all the advanced features in Xbox One, like ā€œrecord thatā€ or ā€œsave screenshot.ā€

For those who want to see the full list of Back Compat titles, check out the list HERE. If thereā€™s a game you donā€™t see on the list, you can vote for or submit a game title HERE.

Furbottomā€™s Features Upcoming Finale

LevelEditor

Weā€™ve seen so many thoughtful and fun playlists built using the level editor in BattleBlock Theater and weā€™ve enjoyed playing through different community-made levels each week! To this day, theĀ Community Theater isĀ home to many fan creations that any fellow BBT player can access while online.Ā Each week, our level designers took a dedicated chunk of time to play through several community playlists to highlight the best playlists in Furbottom’s Features.

However, with the end of the year approaching and Pit People development on-going, we looked into the future to see how we could continue supporting Battleblock Theater community content without stretching too much of our resources and manpower.

Furbottomā€™s Features set to repeat

Starting in December 2015, we will begin rotating encores of previously featured level playlists in Furbottomā€™s Features. We arenā€™t stopping the Furbottomā€™s Features updates completely, but instead we will be re-featuring playlists that were highlighted in the past. We will continue re-releasing special unlocks on a weekly basis through Furbottomā€™s Features or as a freebie unlock, but we will no longer post on our blog each week. The prisoner unlocks will only be posted on our BattleBlock Theater Facebook page + our Behemoth Twitter.

For the rest of November, we will continue our weekly search for our favorite community made levels to be the final features to be added into the Furbottomā€™s Features rotation. So if youā€™ve been working on some BattleBlock Theater levels, finish those up ASAP to be considered for the final Arena, Solo, and Co-Op features!

Hereā€™s the schedule for the last of the new features weā€™ll highlight out of the community playlists:

11/6 – Arena Feature
11/13 – Solo Feature
11/20 – Arena Feature
11/27 – CoOp Feature

Community Theater remains

But donā€™t stop creating entirely! The Community Theater isnā€™t going away so we hope that you level designers out there will continue to build even after we end our weekly searches, because there will still be players who will continue to look for new levels to play.

And you never know! We may still put in a new Feature if we run across something amazing in the future!
