Extra Life 2014 Recap

We were invited by Raptr to join their Extra Life marathon this year! In the past, we’ve donated codes to participants of the charity event, but it was our first time streaming for the event and fundraising for our local Children’s Miracle Network hospital: Rady Children’s Hospital.

As part of the stream on Raptr’s channel, we spent an hour playing Game 4 to raise awareness and fundraise for Extra Life. It was our first time showing the Quest system in Game 4! Here is our recording of our segment in the Extra Life marathon:

Or if you prefer to just watch each individual quest at your own pace, check out this playlist with our Game 4 videos:

We’re so grateful to everyone who came to support our live stream and also to everyone who donated to our Extra Life fundraising page. We raised $665.58 from the community and matched with $666, for a grand total of $1331.58!

During our live stream, we were able to raffle off plush prizes. Congrats to the six winners we pulled from our list of Extra Life donors!

Our new Castle Crashers plush knights will be available soon in our online store, but we will have a separate post when they do go up.

Thanks again for watching us play games and helping to heal kids!

First Look at Game 4!

What’s this?? Game 4 is upon us!!

Shortly before the release of BattleBlock Theater we started working on something new. We schemed up a bunch of concepts and picked our strongest one. From there we fleshed out the lone survivor prototype!!! As it grew stronger and stronger, we polished it, furnished it with delights, and added (gluten free?) sprinkles. Yes, as the chicken dictates, this game is of a genre we haven’t covered before and seek to breathe a new flavor into. Maybe you can find a hint in the video below about which genre it is??

What we’ve ended up with is something we are all very proud of. I am confident you’ll get a kick out of this one. So we’ve decided to bring it to PAX Primeand you can play it! As usual we’ll want your feedback to steer the process. I cannot wait to show you guys what we’ve got!

Until that time, please enjoy the introduction video to this grand and mysterious adventure………. Stay tuned for more info at PAX Prime Booth 3003!!!

Castle Crashers Sketches

Throwback Thursday! Our second game title, Castle Crashers, first came out for Xbox 360 in 2008 and then it made its way to PlayStation 3, and finally Steam. Since 2008 Castle Crashers has been the largest, most successful game we’ve ever created. We are proud to announce that just recently Castle Crashers has been downloaded over 5 million times across all platforms!

In celebration of this 5 million milestone, we are going back to 2005 when we started working on Castle Crashers.

Back in 2005, Dan Paladin, our art director, started sketching up ideas for our 2D multiplayer adventure. Our previous BattleBlock Theater sketch blog post was well received, so we thought it’d be fun to show off some of the original creations for Castle Crashers.

We hope you enjoy the sketches below. Some of these ideas got slightly altered before the game finished development, and some of them didn’t make it to the final version! Can you point out which ones made it in?
