We’re Invading PAX East 2020!

Can you believe that PAX East is almost here? I sure can’t! In fact, I accidentally typed “2019” in the title while I was writing this. Anyway, we’ll be at the show from February 27th to March 1st at Booth #10031, and we want you to visit us!

We’ll be at PAX East with a full-scale INVASION happening at our booth. That’s right, Alien Hominid Invasion will be playable at the show for the first time ever, AND we’ll be releasing more details about the game while we’re there! That way, even if you can’t make it, you’ll still be able to be a part of it all. No one is safe from the Invasion.

But since you’re here, you must be excited! We’ll give you a little sneak peek at everything that’s coming to PAX East, just because you deserve it.

Games

We’ll make this easy, and start with the big one: Alien Hominid Invasion.

The recently announced Alien Hominid Invasion will be playable for the first time ever at PAX East! Drop by our booth any time during the weekend to get your hands on our upcoming game.

If you can’t make it to the show and are eager to learn more about the game, have no fear! When PAX East kicks off, we’ll be sharing more information about the game right here on our blog and across our social media channels.

We’re also bringing the rest of our fine selection of games via arcade cabinets. Try your hand at the original Alien Hominid game, or revisit an old familiar favorite like BattleBlock Theater, Castle Crashers, or Pit People. And if you consider yourself a pro at any of our games, you’re going to want to keep reading…

Challenges

Each day at 11 AM and 4 PM, we’ll be hosting competitions for PAX attendees! Go head to head against your friends, your family, and a bunch of random people you’ve never seen before in your life.

There’s a little bit of something for everyone, so check out what’s on the menu:

  • Day 1: Alien Hominid Speedrun
  • Day 2: BattleBlock Theater Challenge
  • Day 3: Super Soviet Missile Mastar High Score
  • Day 4: Backoff Barbarian Longest survival time

Each challenge will last approximately 1 hour. To enter, all you have to do is show up! 1st and 2nd place winners will earn themselves some sweet prizes, and all participants will get consolation prizes, too! (Until we run out.)

Merch

We’ve got pretty merch, and lots of it. New hats, new socks, new shirts, and of course a PAX East exclusive t-shirt! Some of these are new to the show, and some are new to the WORLD, which means you have a chance to be a real trendsetter.

Keep an eye out for another blog post with more details (and tons of pictures!) coming next week.

Aside from the whole snow thing, we can’t wait for the show! We’re excited to show you what we’ve been working on. And if you can’t make it, remember that we’ll be sharing all the best bits on our social media channels, so be sure to follow us on Twitter and Instagram!

European Tradeshow Mini-Tour Recap

It was a big and busy month for the small chickens at The Behemoth. If you recall, we hit EGX London, then MCM Comic Con London, and THEN EGX Berlin. It was three straight weeks of awesome shows, but it took a minute to shake off the jet lag that came with it.

Now that everything is back in order at home base, we wanted to share our adventures before we dive into prep for 2020 (yeah, that’s coming soon).

After the first weekend in Europe, John wrote up a blog post on EGX London, which you can read here.

Moving into MCM Comic Con London we weren’t sure what to expect. Since we’re San Diego based, we’re used to the enormous spectacle of San Diego Comic-Con that happens every year. I guess that lead us to believe that MCM Comic Con would be a smaller show, which was pretty off-base.

While the show wasn’t quite as crazy as San Diego Comic-Con, we were very pleased by how balanced it was. There was a great mix of pop culture, comics, and of course, video games! The crowd also had more than enough interest in everything, and there was more than enough fun to go around.

There were also quite a few Behemoth cosplayers that showed up! It’s always incredible to see people bringing our characters to life IN real life — that’s a feeling that never goes away or gets old.

At EGX Berlin, the Berlin gaming crowd turned out in a big way. There were about tons of indie devs and games publishers, as well as the lots and lots of enthusiastic cosplayers.

Strangely, they had a small motocross stunt track that was used twice a day. At first we thought it was an electric moto, but after a bit the thick sweet smell of exhaust began to waft through the small exhibition area. Yay, carbon monoxide! We all woke up several hours later….

The venue had two large halls with the devs in one and the merch, food trucks, and lounges in another. Luckily there was a bit of an airlock between the halls because once the deep fat fryers got started, it smelled like a county fair. Inside. All things considered, we were lucky to be in the other room!

The show had crazy mix of games and devs from all over Europe. We saw lots of point and click and narrative games, a good helping of puzzlers and reaction games, and even a golf game for non-golfers built by devs who don’t play golf. One of the publishers also brought their full array of simulators (bus simulator anyone?).

All in all, we had a great time in Europe testing out these new (to us) shows. Looking ahead to 2020, we definitely might have to make our way back to a couple of them, and we can’t wait!

EGX London 2019 Recap

We had a great time at EGX London this past weekend!

The very first morning of the show, we found these in the queue line. It seems likely that some developer dropped these, and lost the keys to their stuff. Rule #57382829 of trade shows: Split up the keys, because if you lose them…

This show was new to us, and we found that it was a weird mix of many shows… much like RTX, you could get tattoos, 3 lbs of fudge, and mystery boxes. Like Tokyo Game Show, San Diego Comic-Con, and PAX East, the main event took place a long linear hall that made for good exercise. Like PAX West, you had some evening programming and board games options, but things would mostly wind down after-hours.

The show venue was about 2x that of Comic-Con, so just imagine two long sausage shaped halls next to each other connected by a food mall. They also set up a county fair type area in the adjacent hall with rides and bouncy houses, so there were a lot of kids having a lot of fun.

We had a great time bringing our games to EGX London, and you can see our photos from the event here. It will be interesting to see how next week goes at MCM Comic-Con London… it should be a smaller show, but we’re just as excited for it!
