Castle Crashers Remastered hits PlayStation 4 on September 17!

It’s the update that everyone (well, everyone with a PS4) has been waiting for! Today, we’re happy to announce that Castle Crashers Remastered will be launching digitally for the PlayStation 4 on September 17, 2019 in North America and September 19, 2019 in Europe! That’s right – the same day as the Nintendo Switch launch.

Thank you for being patient with us while we worked out the last few kinks and got the game in tip-top shape, especially with the extra wait for news that PlayStation 4 players have had to endure while all the Nintendo Switch players rubbed Castle Crashers in your faces. How rude (even though they were probably just excited).

But soon enough everyone will be able enjoy Castle Crashers Remastered on this generation’s consoles, whether they are a PS4, Switch, or even an Xbox One gamer! (Xbox players have been crashing castles and laughing at the rest of us for years now, though. Let’s be honest.)

As always, thank you all for your support and patience as worked to bring this special game to a whole new world of consoles and players. We couldn’t do anything that we do without you.

And now that this crazy new-age Castle Crashers project is finished, we get to head full force into our new projects, which means we’re dedicated to bringing you even more video games to fall in love with. We’ll share more about that when we’re ready, but for now just kick back and enjoy some good ol’ Castle Crashers.

FAQ

Where will I be able to buy Castle Crashers Remastered, and how much will it be?

When Castle Crashers Remastered launches for the PlayStation 4 on September 17, 2019, it will be available for purchase digitally in the PlayStation Store for $14.99 USD. If you’re looking for the Switch version of the game, you can pick it up in the Nintendo eShop for $14.99 USD on the same day.

What’s “Remastered” about the game?

Castle Crashers Remastered includes all of the following differences from the original game:

  • The fast-paced and frantic mini-game “Back Off Barbarian” that you can play by yourself or with your friends
  • Texture sizes are five times greater than the original game, which means the game is five times more beautiful
  • 60 frames per second gameplay! (The original ran at 30FPS which is not nearly as smooth)
  • All previously released downloadable content including characters, weapons, and animal orbs will be available to unlock in-game
  • Various performance updates and improvements to gameplay and online multiplayer

What special PlayStation 4 features are there?

PlayStation 4 players will see their controller’s lightbars set ablaze with their character affinity colors for a bright and glowing experience! And of course, you’ll also be able to play online or offline with friends for up to 4-player chaos!

Is the game going to be cross-platform?

It’s not something we have in our plans. For now, you’ll have to stick to grouping up with friends on the same console, but between couch co-op and online play you should still have plenty of ways to connect!

Are there going to be physical copies of the game?

We don’t have plans to bring the game to store shelves. At launch and for the foreseeable future, Castle Crashers Remastered will only be available digitally for the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch. If we ever did make physical copies it would most likely be as part of some sort of limited edition event or celebration; regardless, we don’t have it in our current plans.

See you on Tuesday!

The Chicken Coop Steam Sale!

Is it “coop” or is it “co-op”? Those are basically our two favorite things here at The Behemoth, so how does a little bit of both sound?

In celebration of PAX West, we’re having a behemoth Steam sale. Does that mean we’re The Behemoth, or that the sale is a behemoth? Both! Seeing a trend here?

Anyway, from August 29th through September 5th, we’re hosting the first-ever Chicken Coop Steam Sale, which means that ALL Behemoth games available on Steam will be on sale! Mind if we provide a sampling?

You can’t beat the coop co-op classics: get yourself or a friend a copy of Castle Crashers or BattleBlock Theater (or both) for 60% off! Work together, or sabotage each other; we won’t tell you how to treat your friends.

Or, set off on The Behemoth’s most recent adventure with Pit People, which will be on sale for 40% off! We promise there will be space bears, blueberries, and tiny iced creams.

If you’re missing a game in your Behemoth collection, be sure to head over to Steam to grab a copy before the sale comes to an end on September 5th. Enjoy!

Jam Out with us and Celebrate Castle Crashers! 🎶

We just recently passed the 11th anniversary of Castle Crashers, which is no small day. We’ll be celebrating 11 years of Castle Crashers and the upcoming launch to Nintendo Switch and PS4 with the game’s music, and you’re invited to party with us!

Every week starting August 27, 2019 and running all the way through October 8, 2019, a musician will be covering one or more of the songs off the Castle Crashers soundtrack. You’ll be able to catch these covers on YouTube, or watch them streamed live on Twitch.

We’ll be updating this blog with the new dates and times each week, so be sure to check back. For now, we’ll kick off the celebrations with the schedule for the first two musicians:

August 27th, 2019 at 1:30 PM PST – The8BitDrummer LIVE on Twitch

The8BitDrummer is a drummer (big surprise there) who streams live covers to an exuberant audience on Twitch! We might be biased, but we’re particularly impressed with his cover of BattleBlock Theater’s Secret Stage music because he somehow managed to sing the entire thing.

He’ll be starting off the celebration strong and playing through the ENTIRE Castle Crashers soundtrack, so you won’t want to miss out on this madman’s performance!

September 3rd, 2019 at 2:00 PM PST – FamilyJules cover premiere on YouTube

FamilyJules is a rad guitarist that is best known for his video game music covers — in fact, he’s done well over 100! Of course, a part of that number is made up by Castle Crashers covers. If you’re feeling a craving for rock and bones, we recommend checking out his original Necromancer Theme cover.

He’ll be premiering an all-new Castle Crashers cover that will have you smashing that replay button!

September 9th, 2019 at 2:00 PM PST – Ubaldo cover premiere on YouTube

Ubaldo is another incredible guitarist who both composes and arranges cover music from pop culture, other musicians, and of course, video games – all with his own killer flair.

On September 9th, he’ll be sharing his own take on a unique Castle Crashers cover with the world, and we can’t wait to listen!

September 19th, 2019 at 7:00 PM PST – Lara6683 LIVE on Twitch

Lara6683 is a musician from Australia who is best known for her talents on the piano and violin. She’s big on old-school video game music nostalgia, so celebrating 11 years of Castle Crashers seemed like the perfect fit!

Catch her live on Twitch on September 19th — she’ll be learning some of the songs from Castle Crashers, and playing them live!

September 24th, 2019 at 2:00 PM PST – MaximumGuitar cover premiere on YouTube

MaximumGuitar plays — you guessed it — the guitar! (Among other things, of course) He does a variety of guitar covers, and was featured on Patric Catani’s Pit People Remix Party album! He even has a whole playlist of music from Castle Crashers and other Behemoth games that you can listen to!

Wondering what that private video on the playlist is? MaximumGuitar will be premiering another special cover from Castle Crashers on September 24th at 2:00 PM PT for your listening pleasure!

October 1st, 2019 at 2:00 PM PST – The Game Brass cover premiere on YouTube

The Game Brass puts a unique spin on video game music as a talented brass quintet! The quintet includes two trumpets, a trombone, a french horn, and a tuba. They have a fantastic rendition of a Castle Crashers classic lined up, lovingly titled “Four Brave Champions (and a Tuba).” We’ll let you figure out the rest from there.

And since tomorrow marks the start of October, be sure to keep an eye out for their extra spooky Halloween album Brasselvania which also drops on October 1st!

October 8th, 2019 at 2:00 PM PST – The8BitDrummer and FamilyJules cover premiere on YouTube

You know them both by now — The8BitDrummer and FamilyJules have already performed separately, but now they’re coming together for a killer collaboration! With all that talent, this is definitely one you won’t want to miss.

October 15th, 2019 at 2:00 PM PST – MaximumGuitar cover premiere on YouTube

Max is back with the talented Hyenaedon and one more Castle Crashers cover to round out our playlist! Even though it’s still Castle Crashers music, this song has a different tone for you to enjoy. This is Max’s second cover of the song, and it’s incredible to see how much he’s improved over the years. Check it out!

We hope all of the musical artists delighted your eardrums and tugged on your heartstrings by tugging on their instrument strings. All of the shows we had for this year have been completed, but you can revisit the sounds by tuning into our complete YouTube playlist!
