As we continue our development for BattleBlock Theater, we are reminded that it is the little details that end up having the most impact.
Back in the early stages of development for BattleBlock Theater (circa 1870) we had a very different visual approach to how the exterior of our theater would look. The video below shows the changes made from the original theater exterior three years ago, and what the current design looks like today:
Here’s some more details from our fearless leader Dan Paladin,
“When I was looking at the entry way to the theater I felt like it needed to be a little more exciting, and a little more user-friendly. Since this area was one of the first I had done, it reeked to me of my learning curve. Having had to work with the block theme, I felt a little clumsy at first — everything was just flat against the back wall and it didn’t really feel like it was there with you.
So I replaced the entrance into an archway which would end up allowing the player to just waltz right in (you used to have to press Y to go into the door). While I was at it, a ticket booth, marquee, and stanchions got thrown in to spruce things up some more. Some animations were added, like rain pouring off the edges of everything, and cats hiding from the player as they walk up.”
What do you think of the new theater entrance?
