BattleBlock Theater Releases Steam on May 15th

battleblock.theater

I have several good things to tell you!

What’s May 15th got to do with anything? Oh, I remember now. BattleBlock Theater is releasing on Steam for Windows & Linux! Yes that’s what I wanted to say. And that’s all. Nothing else to say.

WAIT, NO. I forgot some other stuff. We’ve done some great things during the development of the Steam version that should make everything a little bit better and nothing a little bit worse (as far as I know!!!!!). Cats are fatter, weapons can be immediately switched, Steam Trading, Steam Trading Cards, alterations of the “better” variety exist for sure. The base price for such splendor shall be $14.99.

“$14.99?”, you say? “The Splendor overtakes my being! I am so happy I don’t even know what else I could be saying and I should be getting it right now instead of talking!” “Yes” I reply, “But you cannot get it now because it isn’t May 15th yet.“*

If you’re not familiar with this whole thing, you can check out a video of our announcement trailer here:

Definitely don’t have anything else to announce. Nothing of the surprise variety or anything like that. Oh wait, yes, there is something;

If you were a Steam Beta Tester for us I’d like to let you know that your copy of the game will be FREE. That’s right – Beta Testers shall get their copy for FREE! This is our way of saying thank you for helping us identify any threats.

“Should I remember to delete the Beta before diving in to avoid any weirdness?” You ask. “Why yes, how thoughtful of you!”* I reply.

* These dialogues are here for example purposes and any exact conversations that have occurred like this are merely coincidental.

I LOVE YOUUUUU~

Castle Crashers 5th Year Anniversary

This week marks the 5th year anniversary for Castle Crashers!

5years

The sheer amount of people we’ve needed to believe in our work to get this far is just staggering.  Over 10,000,000 players have given us support across all of our games in our 10 years!  To put that in perspective, that’s approximately 2,880 miles of people who are standing shoulder to shoulder — or, easier to imagine — wider than North America itself from sea to shining sea.

Over 5,000,000 are from Castle Crashers alone!   If you were all to line up side by side you’d get the diameter of Pluto.  I realize Pluto is no longer a planet and all, but don’t let that detract from how huge that is.  And really, who is to say what’s a planet or not?

We’ve received so many great letters from you guys.  Some people claim it has saved their marriage while others have said it’s how they met their significant other.  Some say it has given them a way to communicate with their child at college or home, and others say it has given them inspiration to one day make games!  I’ve seen some of you come by our very first booth being unable to even look over the table to the point where now I have to crane my neck upwards just to say hi nowadays.  It’s really incredible.

I’m overjoyed and I can’t thank you guys enough.  To date we’ve shipped Castle Crashers onto XBLA, PSN, and Steam.

Thank you Microsoft for believing in our poop-filled, colorful little game.. all the way back in 2005!

Thank you everyone who has supported us.  You guys have helped us achieve our dream here!  Our dream of making whatever we want to make, making people happy, giving others memories, and to give us the chance at reinvigorating old genres with our own flavors.  It never feels like “work” so at times it can almost feel like we don’t deserve it.  Who deserves something that special?  Really, I just can’t thank you enough.

I’ve gone on a while.  I should probably get back on Game 4 to put into your sight.

After all, that’s what you guys pay me for, right?

See you at PAX Prime…………….AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!

HO HO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooo,

BattleBlock Theater Now Out on XBLA

Hello friends,

I write to you today to let you know we’ve made you something.  It took us a little over 4 years but it’s finally here.  That’s the most time we’ve put into something, and I think it shows!  It is my overwhelming pleasure to announce BattleBlock Theater‘s release.

What was once an idea grew into the most expansive idea we’ve ever had, even though it wasn’t initially conceived to be.  It demanded more and we gave it more.  It’s our largest game to date in every possible way with our most involved story we’ve ever written.  I’d be surprised if this thing’s story wasn’t twice the length of Castle Crashers.  It’s got hundreds of unlockables and even more levels than that.  It’s got a soundtrack that rivals our previous best.  You’ll find hours of recorded narration that is natural and uplifting.

You might find friendship, betrayal, cats, and something in between all that.  You’ll also find a gift or two waiting for you if you’ve gotten an achievement in Castle Crashers and/or Alien Hominid.  A small token of our appreciation for keeping our team alive… almost 10 years now and counting!!

For the excited: You can pick up our little gem for 1200 Microsoft Points on XBLA, 4/3/2013.

For the ones without a friend handy:  Don’t worry – You can just host a Story Mode game online, or if that’s not your thing there’s also a Single player Story!

For the skeptics:  Oh you! There’s a free demo you can try out either alone or with a friend, so no sweat off your back if you ever want to look!

For the ones listening to “November Rain” by Guns N’ Roses:  Please don’t forget it’s only April.  Though I suppose there’s a lot of rain outside the theater so it’s still fitting.

Enjoy and Thank you,
-Dan
