Happy New Year, knights!
Our team can’t thank you enough for the immense support, anticipation, and patience you’ve provided for this project, and we look forward to providing Steam Workshop integration to Castle Crashers for the first time EVER this year!!
Here’s a quick rundown of everything previously announced for the DLC:
- Steam workshop capabilities – create your own knight skins, choose your magic, and share with the world!
- New official character: play as Paint Junior, use your imagination, and create powerful art to vanquish your foes!
- New player and weapon artwork for all official playable characters (with an option to toggle on or off).
Last month, we shared a DLC development update during our end-of-year stream, which you can watch in its clipped form here! As announced in the video, our next DLC development update will take place next month!
Custom Characters
There’s a lot of cool new menu art and screens we shared during the broadcast, but first, let’s get to the BEEF of this update – the custom characters! Need some inspiration? Look no further than these nine designs from our art team!
When creating a custom character, there will also be sections on the template for a Back Off Barbarian piece, character portrait (shown in character select and level UI), and post-sandwich BEEFY form. You can get pretty creative with what your character can look like after eating a sandwich:
Since the template has multiple frames to animate your character’s head in game, you can have some fun with their facial expressions while attacking or even at rest. Take our winking monkey, for example:
Main Menu Art and DLC UI Update
Upon loading up the DLC after its release, you will be greeted with a new screen offering options for either OLD or FRESH art. Well, we aren’t here today to reminisce about the year you were born, so let’s choose FRESH.
“WAIT – WHAT IS THAT I SEE AFTER CHOOSING FRESH? NEW CASTLE CRASHERS MAIN MENU ART IN 2025?”
That’s right! There will be six new art scenes from iconic moments throughout the game, all rotating in the main menu. This new main menu art will be available for ALL OWNERS of the game, even if you don’t have the DLC! Here’s a quick sneak peek at one of them:
Next, we’ll head down to that freshly painted Painter Boss Paradise button and dive in! Here is another new screen that allows you to enable, create, or preload characters from the Workshop:
Hitting the ENABLE button allows you to see all the characters you’ve created or imported from the Workshop. You’ll have to assign them to a character slot in the ENABLE menu in order to see them in the character select screen.
From there, you’ll be able to choose one of these powerful creations during character selection! If you’re interested in seeing Dan and Amanda run around the map with the new DLC characters, check out the stream recap here, and stay tuned for an even BEEFIER development update coming in February!
