Castle Crashers Release Date…..No, seriously.

August 27th, 2008 is our release date. I’m sure you will read it everywhere else before you read it here, but hey that’s just the way these things happen sometimes. We are excited, and relieved to finally be able to say,  Castle Crashers releases on August 27th!

As we get closer to the release date, which is conveniently 2 days before we attend the Penny Arcade Expo we want to make sure your first day of playing Castle Crashers is going to be freakishly enjoyable. With that said we are excited to announce that one of the unlockable characters in Castle Crashers is our little yellow friend Alien Hominid. The best part about this is that if you have purchased the full version of Alien Hominid HD you will have automatically received this unlock on your Castle Crashers character select screen the day you purchase the game.  (August 27th, 2008) We wanted to make sure to include this for all of our fans out there who supported us with the purchase of Alien Hominid HD. If it wasn’t for your support we might not be here today.

More to come later as soon as we unpack from Comic-Con and get our office back in some working order. Microsoft is also having an awesome “Summer of Arcade” promotion where every time you download Castle Crashers you receive one entry for a chance to win 100,000 Microsoft Points, 12 month Xbox LIVE Gold subscription, and an Xbox 360 Elite console.

One last thing for all of the people who have asked this question, “When is Castle Crashers coming out?”,

  1. Thanks Sillytuna for the educating and interesting links.

Thanks Franklin for clearing thing up with the shacknews post.

I guess we’ll go back at wait and see situation.

  2. I have a question will you be able to get the free background and gamerpics on any day other than the release date because the release date is a day before i come home from my holiday? and its quite a bummer you released it so late that everyone goes back to school soon after but thnx for the date ^_^

  3. UPDATE from shacknews

OK, seems MS have responded letting people know that the prices for Castle Crashers and Braid are an error. The prices have still yet to be announced

If Braid is 800MSP it will be an instant BUY
If Braid is 1200MSP i will try the trial if it seems incredible i will BUY
If Castle Crashers is 800MSP it will be an instant BUY
If Castle Crashers is 1200MSP it will be an instant BUY for me though i know alot of friends who wont buy it (too bad for them)
If Castle Crashers is more than 1200MSP i will PASS

Sorry for the misunderstanding about the Prices, but you cant blame people thinking its the real price as it was from the official Xbox (JP) website.

  4. (ignoring the fact that it’s an unfounded price right now)

KAL: Gripshift, Bionic Commando, Puzzle Quest

Gripshift – PSP retail product then ported.
Puzzle Quest – full $19.99 price on PC and cross platform too.
Bionic Commando – *if* it is 800 points, remember that it’s a publisher funded cross platform title that can be run at a loss if need be (altho they won’t be planning on it).

No it doesn’t matter in one sense, but the fact is that Castle Crashers should be judged on its own merits. The argument about length of gameplay is a common one, but the fact is that 4-6 hours entertainment for 20 bucks is good value compared to many other forms of entertainment, and the multiplayer gives it massive replayability. Hell, you may be able to play through in only a couple of hours if you’re good, I don’t know (and nor does anyone else except for Dan, Emil, John and the rest of the team).

As a general comment on the length of games – gamers are going to have to get used to shorter games if they aren’t AAA for the one simple reason that it costs too much to make long games. Like it or not, publishers can’t afford to do otherwise unless gamers will pay higher prices. Which they/you/we won’t 😉

Also, retail titles are often short and/or rubbish. It isn’t a fair comparison. A fair one is to judge the game on its own merits. Its crazy to diss any game’s cost on the grounds of it being distributed digitally IMHO. I hate to tell you but it’s going to be commonplace on console within the next few years.

As a sign off, if you think this game is likely to be better than Alien Hominid (as I do, and I’m biased towards AH for obvious reasons!), then remember that AH was a boxed copy retail title at a similar/higher price point.

  5. I thought 1800 was high at first, but then I remembered buying Alien Hominid for the PS2 at $30, compared to $50 for most other PS2 games at launch. That was a hell of a deal. Castle Crashers is going to be at least as awesome as AH, for $10 less.

  6. i would buy this on a cd, too 😉 with 30€ pricetag 😛 more worth for your money than many games selling for 65-70 😛

  7. see what a release date and an unconfirmed price can do to the online community…. Madness….

    Actually its Sparta

  8. Wow, Castle Crashers is released the day school starts for me. I’m not sure if my parents are going to let me buy it.
